So, who is Michele Grant?
Michele Grant grew up wanting to be a combination of Maya Angelou, Perry Mason, and Eartha Kitt. Deciding that law books were dusty and boas not practical for everyday wear, she’s still clinging to that Maya Angelou dream.
When not laboring away on the keyboard, she can be found trying to channel her “inner B. Smith”, growing roses, trying new recipes and wondering if just one more throw pillow works with that sofa?
She has Ella Fitzgerald and Kanye West on the same playlist in her iPod, she’s affectionately been given the nickname “Shopping Queen”, and there is not a single fall Sunday where her TV isn’t tuned in to an NFL game.
Contradictory yet contemporary, Michele sees the humor in all things and shares that with her readers.
Have you always known you wanted to be a writer?
Yes, from a very young age I used to “borrow” my Mom’s Harlequin romances and I knew I wanted to make happily ever after stories a part of my future.
Where does the inspiration for your stories come from?
Everywhere! Dreams, real life, television, music, a random thought.
What would readers be surprised to know about you?
My day job is a Managing Consultant for a Human Resources company.
What are your hobbies outside of writing?
Gardening, cooking, dancing around my house to all kinds of music, travelling and of course: READING!
Why is Black Romance important to you?
It’s important that love is love no matter who is feeling it. Love is one of those things that all of humanity can relate to and it’s crucial that as African Americans, we have the opportunity to tell those stories with our own special flavor.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
KEEP AT IT! It took over ten years for me to get by first book deal.
Favorite black romance book of all time?
The Hand I Fan With by Tina McElroy Ansa
Favorite author of all time? Nora Roberts
Favorite book turned movie? Right now, Hidden Figures!
Favorite genre to read? Romance
Favorite genre to write?
What is your go-to writing playlist?
It changes depending on my mood, right now I’m looping the Hamilton soundtrack & mixtapes.
What snack/drink must you have while you’re writing? If any?
It depends, I’m a big tea drinker both hot and iced but if I’m writing a particularly steamy scene I like a big glass of pinot noir.
How do you celebrate a release day?
By posting all over every social media outlet available and going to the bookstores near me to take pictures.
What’s your favorite part about being an author?
Hearing the readers tell me what they enjoyed and what spoke to them in my books.
Where can people find you and your books?
The easiest way is my website www.MicheleGrant.net Or @MGrantAuthor or @OneChele on Twitter. @OneChele on Pinterest & Instagram. MicheleGrantAuthor on Facebook. My books are on Amazon, in Target, Barnes and Noble and Wal-Mart to name a few!
