First, let me state how happy I was to find this author a few years ago and get the opportunity to enjoy her unique and quirky writing style. Over the past year, her writing has taken on a technical prowess in which her growth process showed exceptional promise. A Sabrina Scales story rarely deals with plain Jane female characters, and the men are sometimes average Joes with a regular job. They are often times real people with normal life issues.
The Bricks stories are a part of a series. This was the second story dealing with Tasia and Aries. Camille and Stokley’s story was the first story. Be sure to read the first story and then jump into this one. Dive into the deep end of this wonderfully crafted storyline. Fair warning, you will need to know how to swim throughout the intricate details and dialogue between the characters, the story moves at a rapid pace and at times pulls out emotions and desires whether we want it to or not. Camille and Stokley’s cameo appearance dealt with their chance for happily ever after- thankfully without Mr. Watts and his tomfoolery. Tasia’s noisy neighbor Bobbie was a lot of fun to learn more about; she was a nice addition to the storyline. I’ll look forward to reading her story in the upcoming series.
In this story, Tasia openly suffered following the loss of her husband and two children, at the hands of their father. She chose to deal with he grief with alcohol and distancing herself from her family. Tasia met Aries, the hero in this story at an AA meeting, where she rarely participated. In fact, she came to the meeting under the influence of a raffish treat or a mind-numbing beverage.
By happenstance, Tasia and Aries had a type of 6 degrees of separation connection which was revealed in an audacious manner. The first date, or drop by visit was funny and sad at one point; I was amazed Aries was disciplined to the point of not allowing his body to take the lead when Tasia threw herself at him the day she enticed him after the AA meeting. Having Aries discover Tasia was four shots happy during the meeting presented as a typical Sabrina catchy plot twist. A new Scales reader will marvel at the unpredictable nature of her stories.
Tasia was broken and battered by her loss. The method she chose to cope with her pain only ravished her beauty somewhat, and her desire to live a so-called normal life. The guy at the liquor store pointed out her struggles and relevance to her pain as he’d watched her decline into an abysmal mess. Although Tasia spiraled into the depths of despair,as Aries watched in dismay, she and Aries had another connection with her family. This revealed yet another story and more prophetic issues for Tasia to confront. Aries was a really nice and kind-hearted man. His story, and why he was required to attend AA meetings was yet another curveball thrown by the mistress of misdirection. I liked the way he was portrayed as this attractive man with a calm and laid back demeanor. Yet to discover he had a lot more depth than presented at the onset of the story. Through Aries kindness,Tasia was able to make a lost connection with her sister and forgave her for an unforgivable act. Meeting his family and friends was another bonus in the story. Each character added a nice touch to the story. In the end, the fire burning between Tasia and Aries was dowsed a bit by his ex-girlfriend but was quickly rekindled when the flame was once again ignited by Aries conviction to be her man, and help her be a better person. This was a very nice story. 5 Star story. This is an author to watch in the future.
