This was a nice short read with a little bit of drama. The story featured the genre where an old enemy resurfaces and wreaks havoc.. In this story, the plot twisted a bit and the happily ever after was not as I expected, and with whom I expected. I like it when the writing isn’t so predictable that I can close my eyes and know what’s going to happen next. Bravo! Blue Knight for keeping a sister on her toes..
So here’s your need to read snippet… Renni was a fancy pastry chef and dessert designer working at one of the elite restaurants in town. She was also hoping to one day own her shop. When she learned that her grandmother’s shop in Harlem was in trouble and she might lose it; Renni had to come up with a quick solution. By the way, Renni’s man was an attorney. His office was across the street a few doors down from her granny’s store.. Renni’s grandmother’s shop in Harlem had been in the family for three generations. I liked that idea of a black owned business being passed down in the family… Renni’s grandmother had the solution, so she thought.. She suggested that Renni by the shop and open a chocolate factory. And as a good little granddaughter; Renni undertook the task of making that happen.. And the drama ensued when Renni’s ex and nemesis came back to town with something up his sleeves other than his bulging biceps and sweet demeanor. This invasion momentarily put a strain on the nice tranquil relationship between Adam and Renni. Renni had just gotten a contract to do the wedding for a big celebrity when the ex made his presence and nuisance in her life known once again. He was always her completion and once held her heart. When Renni’s shop had a freak accident, might I add, this was suspect…So now its panic time and she had to scramble to meet the wedding deadline. This was the drama with the ex that she should have predicted when and all hell broke loose.
In the end, the better chef won… A few notes about the story… There weren’t a lot of intimate moments in the story, but this did not detract from the story. The connection between Adam and Renni was tentative. The connection between Renni and her ex was tenuous at best. Thankfully, the backstory with Renni’s family and her staff added to the story. Again thankfully, the plot twist was a nice touch. The only sticking points for me were twofold… the way the author let the antagonist story line end, and the way the drama neatly unfolded.. It could have been a bit more creative. If you take us there, go all the way there… Overall, the flow was nice and the story was nicely done.. I would have liked a little bit more of a connection and chemistry between the lovers. A 4.5 stars story for me… Try a nice slice of chocolate..
