New Author Alert:
This week’s books have been mostly new authors. This story in particular was nicely done. I liked the theme which focused on four women and the men in their lives.
The story began with Jade and Aleena’s father walking out on their mother… He had just come home one morning after being out two consecutive nights with his mistress… Their mother Michelle’s response to her husband’s actions had me thankful this was a novel. I hate to cuss at my Kindle for no Real reason. This little drama at the start made the story interesting for this reviewer. I had imagined something different when I read the synopsis. I wanted to see whether their mom developed enough chutzpah to be a Badass one day.
Are you ready now? Let us fast forward several years later. Jade and Aleena’s parents had reconciled. And despite the time passage, Jade still had little respect for her mother for reconciling with her father. She thought that once a cheater, always a cheater. You were one and done with her. She’d made a promise to herself to never… I mean never ever- let a man win her heart. During short breaths in the story a few guys came and went and the struggle was real for Jade. Jade met a few guys whom she should have known better than to let them near her heart. The same thoughts applied to Blair- home girl and friend since secondary school. She was also having problems with her man Jayson. Jayson was in fact a piece of doo doo.. His real character will surface later in the story. It won’t be hard to spot his flaws… One character in particular was straight up foul! I promise, you will want to b-slap him in the end. Trust me on this one. Then there was the relationship the sisters had with their parents. Jade’s lack of trust in men emanated from her father’s treatment of their mother. At one point in the story Jade had a great man, yet she would not trust her heart to discern the difference in a good man and a great man.. I truly believe Max was the latter.
Part one of the story ended with a perfect intro into the second book. Blair’s story will get top billing next time around. So what about the sex you ask? The sex, okay let me explain. There was a subliminal sexual messages conveyed. The sex was not overtly detailed in the story, yet it was carefully crafted enough for readers to get the point. It’s not always necessary to get under the covers to see what’s happening. Did I like the story and the characters? The answer is a resounding Yes! The characters were developed. Although a few time, I needed a little more. Overall, I have no major complaints. This was a nice first novel for this author. I’ll be happy to see what happens with Blair and Jayson next. Go ahead and give this one a try. 4.5 stars…
