This author has a way with telling stories on various topics. The topic for this story had me running to do some research to get more information about a polyamorous relationship. I won’t give you a dictionary description, nor try to give you a dissertation on the subject. A quick overview though: Polyamorous is a couple deciding to have an additional person, or persons involved in a sexual relationship while the couple remains together.
Shanice thought she had a good life and relationship with her man Jeremy. She was a food critic and writer for an upscale magazine. Jeremy’s work situation escapes me at this time. However, his career had begun to be a burden on their relationship. Shanice lived closer to downtown, and Jeremy he lived many miles north of Houston in a city called The Woodlands. Houston folks will know this location and what this means as it relates to the significance of this location as described by Shanice. Briefly, its an upscale neighborhood with family oriented homes.. Keep that in the back of your mind as I go forward with this review.
Shanice had regularly visited the Capital Grill after writing an elegant review that catapulted the restaurants business into another dimension. Shanice began to have lunch there every Wednesday. The guy who took her order and hand delivered it to her each time, was a much younger man who happened to have a crush on her. Byron made no bones about his attraction to her eventually. The day of his announcement and proclamation, Shanice left the restaurant running scared. She realized Byron wanted her. Hence- his over exuberance to serve and please her.
Later that night when Shanice visited Jeremy at his home; she was ready to get her back blown out by her man. But, he was blocking her advances, saying he was too tired… RED FLAG, Shanice! Do you see the big red flag? After self gratifying herself and later going to sleep, she suspected something was definitely off.. Stevie Wonder could see something was off with their relationship. As time passed and Jeremy spent less and less time with Shanice, it was obvious the issue was his lying behind. The topping on the cake was when he gave her permission to be with Byron, in fact, he nearly pushed her to the other man… That’s where the polyamorous came into play for them. He was aware she would be with Byron with his permission. What Shanice did not expect was to have the younger man have her nose wide open with his manhood and his sex game… Young dude could handle his business, and since Jeremy was now lacking in that area, Byron was happy to be his seat filler. Eventually Jeremy’s big home (4 bedroom home) will make sense in the story. I won’t spoil the story by revealing his level of disrespect and my disgust with this Troll…
As the relationship with Byron and Shanice grew, several issues with whom Byron really was, and his connection to the businesses Shanice frequented will become clearer. The connection between Byron and Shanice was electric from the start. Their sexual encounter was sexy, and sexy again. The flow in the story was easy. The characters were developed. But, it would have been nice to have more background on how Jeremy and Shanice came to be in a polyamorous relationship. That would have helped to make a greater connection to the stories theme. Overall, this story was nicely told story. I loved this story and the premise was amazing. I like the uniqueness in the way Chencia tells a story. Her voice is interesting.
