If you haven’t guessed by now, I’ll confess. I need to get this off my chest once and for all. Christina C. Jones is one of the best and favorite authors in my reading world. I know Duh! I love to follow and revel and shout about her works. Reading and getting to take a journey with a writer is like a magical adventure. Each story is just that, an adventure, told by one of the most prolific writers in my genre of choice- Black Love.
In relationship goals, readers were introduced to Noah Hudson and Nick Davison. This first thing I was struck by was the way their names were cohesively connected. Nick and Noah, Noah and Nick. Do you see what I mean? The second thought was the way their blatant chemistry from the very first encounter espoused and explored. When Noah helped Nick out when the person bumped into him and spilled his coffee, I would never have guessed he would take it upon himself to kiss her. Some authors think way outside the box.
As the story progressed and characters persona became more and more visible, it was obvious this CCJ character was yet another woman of substance. My mother was a 4’11 dynamo, a strong-minded pint-sized woman, so I identify with that type of personality best. Small in stature but powerful in her mindset and teachings. That was how I identified with Noah. Nick, on the other hand, was a mild-manner Blackman Clark Kent type, minus the tights and goofy glasses. A superhero mindset, with a brothers influence. The way both characters are described by this author is always a thing of beauty. I look forward to exploring each minute detail and rolling it around in my head.
Arizona, Arizona, Arizona, Lordy, guys she is such a fool. I love her more each time she graces the pages of a CCJ story. She always adds a lot to the story and makes me laugh out loud at her antics. This time was no different. Having a friend like this makes me want to go to visit that wonderful town. Cameron Taylor, the CEO for Sugar&Spice is always refreshing. I liked getting more history about her. And Rashad- it is always a pleasure to see his fine self in any story. Shirtless Chef Savion and bro convo always makes me laugh. Christina is the master of male to male smack talking convos… I look forward to it. Noah’s Nana was another sweet part of the story. The all-knowing one. We all had one of those.
Nick was an independent filmmaker and man on a mission. He planned to finish his father’s bucket list. Kissing a beautiful stranger was one of the items on the list. I could see his fascination and the strong inspiration running through his brain when he apologized to Noah and proceeded to kiss the life out of her body. Noah did not appear to be caught off guard; she, in fact, seemed pleased and ready to receive his offering. The culprit who invaded their intimate moment was a godsend. Little did they know at the time that moment would catapult the unknown couple into a relationship with goals. Nick’s sister and nephew, along with the other ancillary characters filled the background space with revery and enjoyment. With the exception of her ex Sam. Sam needed to take a seat in the back of the class and just move on with his life. Noah was done with his lying behind.
Otherwise, It was nice the way Nick and Noah’s careers and lifestyles played a focal part in the story. As a speaker and leader of the healthy revolution about being a better you- Noah was in her element. It was equally as satisfying to see a man of color be successful and be humble at the same time. No chest pounding and treating women like objects. And a strong female who’s not afraid to have a good man in her life. That was how Nick and Noah presented in this story. Two solidly built souls intertwined by synergy.
Nick and Noah finally got together after he low-key stalked her. Had a great time together, and then had a situation spoil the evening date was eerily calming to me. I’m not sure why I wasn’t too upset. I knew something had to happen in order for Nick to chase after Noah and then just drop the ball in the end zone. The story will reveal what the issue was to cause Nick to miss a very important date with Noah. And as more and more was revealed and discussed and more than one crisis occurred, it was clear that Noah was in for the long haul. I was also happy Nick wasn’t macho man and allowed Noah to be his support. Issues are a given if we live long enough. The way an author researches and deals with said issues is the important point. This author is a research guru and never fails to give readers hope and factual information in the same space. The back and forth travel between climates and the stress on Nicks body, aside for his need to please Noah, wow!I was impressed.
The little brown puppy story about Puppy had me boo hooing. I was not prepared for that story, and neither was Nick. *No Spoiler* This solidified my love for Nick at that moment. The connection and the sexual chemistry was hotter than Houston in July. Then- remember, it was that synergy thingy.
Back to the list-The, other things on his father’s list were accounted for except for one that puzzled him. The last on the list- Sensual Mundane. I loved the way this was brought out, and Nick being involved in the sexy encounter. Then to have the hot, sexy scene scored by singer Dani, was yet another visualization that made me preen and pose for the camera, my dang self. This was a short story for this author. Yet, it was packed to the gills with love, inspiration, sisterly love and a man who supported his woman and vice versus. My rating 5+ Stars…
