This was the first book I’ve read by this author. The story was very lengthily and filled with so much angst, along with unwavering love. The full impact of the title was revealed with each painful memory Dominick was burdened with many nights as this story unfolded over the vast canvas undertaken by this author.
Dominick’s story was compelling and lovely. He and his brother Kevin were very smart and easygoing kids until their world spiraled out of control after an incident involving their father. The incident scarred Dominick to a point, but he was a survivor. Dominick attended the university where he met the young lady who would eventually take a hold of his heart strings and pull them tightly. Their initial meeting was odd, yet connected in a way. Denise was however connected to a guy who was not at all whom he presented himself as; the good guy.
Readers will discover that a sheep in wolves clothing was amongst the friends. As the story unfolds it bogs down a bit with details repeated a few times more than needed for this reviewer. Denise’s character was an anomaly for a portion of the story as I could not get a bead on her inner person initially. Over the course of the story, It was easier to see her true persona. It just took a while for it to surface.
The story was nicely written, and it flowed better mid story. The chemistry between the characters was overwhelmingly apparent with each glance and with each encounter. The back story with Kevin, Trinity and Denise’s ex Chris added more drama to the story. Nearing the conclusion of the story the title became more relevant and explained Dominick’s struggles. He was scarred but he was slowly healing with Denise’s help. At the conclusion of the story, It was somewhat exhausting and exciting, if that makes any sense…Moreover, the story felt completed in the end. This was a 4.0 star read for this reviewer.
