THERE’S A NEW RELEASE COMING THIS JULY FROM RAE ANDERSON, AND WE HAVE THE COVER!
I was up, restless and floundering beneath the linen blanket involuntarily. Looking over at my phone caused my eyes to blossom past their comfort zone.
4:00 am
It’s vibration rattled me, causing the device to slip free from my fingers. Leaning over the edge of the bed, I collected it from the floor only to find the device still stubbornly requesting my attention.
“Hello?”
It was the same number from two hours prior, calling yet again.
“Glad to know you’re awake.”
Butter.
Me.
I melted.
For all the wrong reasons.
And right ones too.
“What’s going on?”
The need to know was far more rampant than my attraction to the voice. Like violin strings, he toyed with me in ways I knew would make me sing.
“I’m sorry for dragging your night out. Dragging you into this.”
“That’s not an answer.”
Silence.
It caused my skin to pepper with the night’s chill. Thick and heavy it oozed until his sigh formed a dam against it.
“Something happened shortly after I left you.”
His voice was strained—shattering under the revelation. I located patience, shifting upright against my headboard in the darkness, shifting the phone closer to my ear.
“You remember Kamal?” He asked after a weighty pause.
“Your friend who left early?” I remembered the handsome gentleman. The memory of Kamal’s face was fresh—while friendly and playful, he had been focused, his energy almost entirely absorbed in the fight playing overhead.
“Yeah, him.”
“Is he okay?”
“He was murdered.”
AND NOW… THE COVER!
