A Love Deferred: A Novella by Brookelyn Mosley

What happens when the heart wants what the mind resists?

Cadence Nice went from being an optimistic romantic to a coldhearted commitment-phobe. She convinced herself she was over it, finished, done with searching for a stable relationship after wasting her time with an ex who wasn’t serious.

She thought she found the perfect placeholder in a man she despised but life has a way with switching things up.

After sleeping with an enemy, her next-door neighbor, Meki Knight, Cadence believed she found bliss in keeping things only physical between them.

She was so wrong.

Exclusive Affair by Marie Nash

Monte Crawford kept a watchful eye on Alisa’s friend, Shari Morgan. Shari was a beautiful woman and just his type. He had to get with her. He noticed that she kept looking at him, too. Oh yeah, she wanted him too. Shari was the wedding planner, so he hadn’t been able to get close to her all evening. She had been busy making sure everything was running smoothly. He had to catch her alone so he could talk to her. Monte hadn’t been with a woman in a while. Shari would fit the bill rather nicely. He didn’t do relationships, but he wanted to spend the night with her.
Opportunity knocks. Shari was headed to the bartender for the night to get another glass of wine.
Shari shuddered. The scent of Monte’s cologne reached her before he appeared beside her. She had already been-forewarned about him from Alisa. He was a nice guy but a guy who loves lots of women. She had noticed all the heated looks he’s been giving her all evening. She was wondering when he would make his move.
Shari thanked the bartender for her drink and took a sip. Delicious. She moaned and closed her eyes for a moment. Whoever chose the wine must be a connoisseur. She loved a good glass of wine, and this was one of the best she had ever tasted.
“I’m envious of that wine.”
Shari opened her eyes and turned towards him. Excuse me?”
“That wine must be pretty good to get that kind of reaction from you.”
“It is.” She glanced around the room. “Have you seen Michael and Alisa? It’s getting late. The guests are going to start leaving soon. They seem to have disappeared.”
Monte chuckled. “I think they wanted some alone time.”
Shari rolled her eyes. “Those two. In a couple of days, they will be on their honeymoon. They can have all the alone time they want.”
He grinned. “I know but true love and all that.” His eyes ran up and down her body. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on all those curves. It would be an experience neither one of them would ever forget. He hadn’t been this excited about making love to a woman in a very long time. The powerful attraction between them was a strong magnet he couldn’t ignore.
Shari took a quick sip of her wine and cleared her throat. Thank you, God. People were leaving so she had the perfect excuse to get out of this awkward conversation. “Please excuse me. I see some people I want to say goodbye to before they leave. I still have lots to do. See you at the wedding tomorrow.”
“Hold on a minute. What are you doing after you finish here?”
“Not that’s it’s any of your business, but I’m going home.”
Monte rubbed his chin. “I have a better idea. Why don’t we get together for a drink? Whatever we do after that will be up to you.”
Shari removed his hand from her arm and stepped back. “Really? Are you just going to approach me like that? You don’t even know me. I suppose at the end of this get together we end up at my place? I don’t think so. Sorry, Casanova. You’re going to have to find someone else to scratch that itch.”
All I’m proposing is that we spend the night together. I’m attracted to you, and I know you’re attracted to me. Why can’t we explore that attraction?”
“You are some piece of work. I like having fun just like the next person. That doesn’t mean that I sleep with every man I meet. Certainly not with a stranger. You must think that you’re some hot stuff. I don’t know how you made it through the door with that over-inflated ego. I have news for you. You’re not that hot!
“That was a long speech to say no. However, it’s your loss. I’m staying with Mike, temporarily. Let me know if you change your mind.”
“Don’t hold your breath.”
